There is a growing trend among therapists to offer online sessions to meet the needs of our busy, modern society. Similarly, the NHS here in the UK offers online therapy in the form of both a messaging service and through video sessions. It gives people more options and flexibility around speaking to a therapist. For people who are unable to access face to face counselling, whether they live remotely or have mobility issues, or indeed for any other reason, online counselling can be an excellent option.
I now offer online counselling via VSee and Zoom both of which are free platforms similar to Skype but are fully encrypted. Each session, as with face to face therapy, lasts 50 minutes, with session rates starting at £45. I take advance payment for our initial consultation either by bank transfer or Paypal and invoice for subsequent sessions on a monthly basis. If you feel online counselling may be for you, get in touch and we can schedule an initial consultation. Please note; I will send through an assessment form ahead of this which you can fill in and return or we can review in the consultation.
You will need a functioning microphone, webcam and a good broadband connection.
Please feel free to visit the BACP Website (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and read information on the BACP Ethical Framework for Counselling, Online Counselling, and Psychotherapy.
Each online client will be carefully assessed before beginning any treatment. I work in an ethical way and will not take on any clients for online sessions if I do not feel it will be beneficial to them. Online counselling is not intended for individuals with severe and enduring mental health difficulties or for those who are actively suicidal and so I will be unable to work online with any client who contacts me with these issues. It is also not for individuals who are in crisis. If you feel you are in danger of harming yourself contact the Samaritans.
